In 1933 the Japanese automobile company Nissan was founded. However, the first years of its existence, the concern devoted to the production of cars under the Datsun brand. In 1934, the first passenger car of the brand called Nissanocar was presented, and in 1935 the first car on the territory was presented, which was assembled entirely from Japanese components.
During the Second World War, the company switched to the production of buses and trucks, actively developing a new generation of internal combustion engines. At the end of the war, for two years, the brand produced small batches of trucks for the occupation forces. After the restoration of the main production facilities, Nissan again began production of passenger cars. The first of them was the compact Datsun, equipped with only the most necessary options and a reliable self-assembled gasoline engine.
In 1950, an enterprise was opened to produce diesel power units for buses and trucks of a number of Japanese brands, including Toyota. Two years later, an agreement was signed with the British firm Austin, which invested heavily in the further modernization of Nissan factories, which led to the beginning of the licensed assembly of Austin cars for the domestic car market in Japan in 1953.
However, the key event that determined the further development of the company for years to come happened in 1955, when the off-road Nissan Patrol was introduced. And one of the features of the frame jeep was the presence under the hood of the first Japanese engine with six cylinders.
In 1958, sales of Nissan cars began in the United States of America. After 2 years, the compact sedan Nissan Cedric was introduced, which was very popular both in the automotive market in Asia and in the USA.
In 1962, the family model Nissan Skyline was introduced, which three years later received a sports modification, which defined a new niche in the model range of the Japanese company. In 1966, the Datsun Sunny was introduced, which became Nissan's best-selling car in the twentieth century, conquering the European car market and receiving a number of British Auto Academy awards. The main advantage of this model was that it was simple and reliable, which could not distinguish European cars of that time. 1967 saw the introduction of a car for the Emperor's family, which marked the beginning of the Nissan luxury car series.
After the modernization of the company's model range in the 70s of the twentieth year, the management of "Nissan" set a course for an intensified development of the American automobile market, as a result of which, the company's plants were opened on the West and East coasts of the USA. Thanks to a number of factors, including the fuel crisis, the Japanese firm's economical and inexpensive cars are in great demand on both sides of the ocean.
In 1982, production began on a new family model of the company - the Prairie minivan. Two years later, a victory was won at the prestigious Paris-Dakar rally, where the Nissan Patrol did not leave a single chance to competitors, after which the development of the Terrano compact family SUV began, which went on sale in 1986. In the wake of the success, in 1989 the luxury division of the Japanese brand was founded, called "Infiniti" and presented at that time exclusively in the automotive markets of the USA and Canada.
In 1992, the ultra-compact Nissan Micra was introduced, which has become widespread in the automotive markets of developing countries. In 1999, after a long economic crisis within the Nissan company, papers were filed to declare the company bankrupt, but Renault, which joined the fight for the life of the Japanese brand in time, prevented the closure of the brand. Thus, the French concern bought out a controlling stake in Nissan, becoming not only a technological partner of the company, but also generously replenishing its budget for years to come.
So, many joint models were presented, after which Nissan engineers began to create universal platforms for cars of different classes. In addition, thanks to the Japanese brand, Renault was able to enter the all-wheel drive market.
Since 2003, many of the company's new models have been introduced and have won a number of awards, but the key moment was the launch of the world's first mid-range crossover Nissan Murano, which has become very popular in the US automotive market. In addition, Infiniti used Murano as a base for the FX model, which also became very successful in the luxury off-road car class. It is worth noting that by 2012, Nissan became the only automaker in the world that has in its model range all-wheel drive vehicles of all classes, from compact budget to full-size premium. In November 2013, Nissan made significant contributions to crossover development. It took the company almost seven years to create the new model, but experts say that the result is worth it.
The sales rate of Nissan vehicles is growing every year. At all car dealerships, the company regularly demonstrates more and more new achievements, expanding its model range with improved modifications and new concepts. One of Nissan's most recent accomplishments is the Teatro for Dayz, the first ever car to feature a full touchscreen dashboard.
